Michael Griffin, a man who has the ability to turn invisible, arrives unnoticed at a plush, hosted party at Reisner Labs. Griffin corners one of the members of the lab's science team upstairs, and proceeds to brutally beat him and throw him around the room, until he finally forces the team member to reveal the whereabouts of Maggie Dalton, another team member, and kills him.

The police arrive at the laboratory to conduct an investigation, but the military supervisor of the laboratory, Colonel Gavin Bishop, insists it is an internal military situation and the police have no jurisdiction over the crime, and refuses to relent even when one of the detectives, Frank Turner, points out that they have no experience conducting a proper criminal investigation.

Fearing another attack on the remaining scientists, the lab company owner, Professor Reisner, employs Turner and his partner, Detective Lisa Martinez, to protect Maggie (despite the military forcing the police out of the investigation), but refuses to divulge any information to the detectives on the nature of the work they are doing, which includes refusing to tell them that Griffin can turn invisible...........
